Cory Young & Ty Thurman
March 14 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pmPurchase Reserved Seating
It’s often said that songwriting comes from life experience and Cory’s music is the perfect example. Growing up between the white sandy beaches of Oahu and the dirt roads of rural Carleton Michigan, he was fortunate enough to experience a childhood full of variety and culture. This upbringing along with nearly a decade in the Nashville music scene has had a huge impact on the content and sound of his music. But It was a chance vacation, and maybe too many Chesney songs that led him to sell everything, leave Nashville, and buy a sailboat, spending the next 5 years sailing the Florida Keys, Bahamas, Tortuga’s, and Caribbean with his family. Nominated for 6 2018 TRMA awards and winner of the Trop Rock Music Association’s Album of the Year “SeaHabilitation”, as well as the Horizon Award. He was named the the 2018 TropRockin Magazine’s Peoples Choice “Breakthrough Artist” and his single “All She Does is Beach” was named as the most requested song of the year (2018) by RadioTropRock. With music inspired by Kenny Chesney, Jack Johnson and Jimmy Buffett, but also by his own adventures and life, you’ll find music for pirates, beach bums and parrotheads alike. After hurricane Irma Cory relocated to Las Vegas where he used the opportunity to work on his latest release “Beach Philosophy”. Ty Thurman began playing guitar at age 7, learning his first chords from his grandpa, a popular Oklahoma musician and fiddler. Ty went on to develop as a lead guitarist and singer, performing with a variety of acts around the St. Louis area, and later, the Connecticut Shoreline. His interest in songwriting began with “the Action,” a high energy rock band that performed all original material. Eventually, he returned to his country roots, and began to perform his own tunes around the San Fransisco Bay Area in the late 90’s. In 1998, Ty left a Silicon Valley career to pursue his musical dreams in Nashville. He found work at Huntsman Entertainment,a country radio production and music publishing company located on Nashville’s historic “Music Row.” Nights, he worked part-time at the Bluebird Cafe, an iconic acoustic venue known around the world, and the location of the popular PBS series “Live at the Bluebird.” Over the next several years, Ty met many of country music’s top artists and tunesmiths, listening to and studying their hit songs. In time, he was invited to perform at the Bluebird and other popular clubs, and had the chance to write with and appear alongside many of his songwriting heroes.
Today, Ty lives in the Florida Keys, where he continues to write, play guitar and sing his songs, many now flavored with the spirit of the tropics, sailing and island life. He currently performs as a solo act and in a duo with long-time friend and co-writer Cory Young. He also fronts a popular band, and sits in with many other local groups as a lead guitarist.
Ty returned to Nashville in August 2018 to record his second album with Leap the Creek Records. The title track “BeachBalls” is the first single, and it’s quickly climbing the charts. This all new 10-song album marks
Ty’s full commitment to
the Trop Rock / Island Americana genre, and it of course includes songs about the typical subjects of partying and drinking in places like Key West.
Looking beyond the obvious, there are also songs about unique island and sailing characters and local landmarks like Sombrero Beach and the Seven Mile Bridge. This album, along with the 2017 release, “Where I’ve Been,” is available for purchase at Ty’s shows and online at several sites, including CDbaby, iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.
